Bush Accidently Prevented World War 3
August 15, 2008 – 1:10 pmI never thought I’d say it, but when I saw the conflict between Russia and Georgia break out, I heaved a sigh of relief saying “Thank goodness for the war in Iraq.” Specifically, I thanked God for allowing Bush to deteriorate our military to the point that made fighting Russian impossible.
South Ossetia has been functionally independent for years, although not recognized as such by the international community. Russia has been supporting South Ossetia separatists for almost as long. Georgia went in to South Ossetia to reassert power, and Russia went in to help the South Ossetia separatist.
Russia hasn’t made any public claims to South Ossetia, but they do control North Ossetia. South Ossetia’s citizens have expressed a desire for both independence from Georgia, with the possibility of unification with North Ossetia.
Russia was in the right to attack the Georgians. They may have gone over the top with the counter-attack (read: moving troops into Georgia), but really, this was provoked.
It’s complicated by the fact that Georgia has given Bush several thousand troops to fight in Iraq. Now that our ally is at war, we should help them, right? That’s where the problem spawns. By any standard of morals, we should help an ally that has helped us for years. But Georgia is the aggressor; so do we help them?
Bush says yes, issuing several warnings of military actions against Russia. In his official statment regarding the crisis, he said, “The United States of America stands with the democratically elected government of Georgia….[Condoleezza Rice] will personally convey America’s unwavering support for Georgia’s democratic government. On this trip she will continue our efforts to rally the free world in the defense of a free Georgia.”
And that, my friends, is why the war in Iraq saved the world. If Bush hadn’t completely destroyed America’s war readiness, depleted the treasury, and given America total war fatigue, we’d be in Georgia right now, preparing to attack Russia — which would obviously lead to massive problems.
Bush is a self-declared wartime president. Long time aids of Bush report the president saying ‘history only remembers wartime presidents.’ He has a bloodthirst that demands he puts in his military before diplomacy. So without Iraq, we’d be over there in a heart beat. But all of us can rest assured we won’t be going to war with Russia; thankfully Bush sufficiently ass-porked America to the point that we can’t go to war with Russia.
For once, I am saying “Thank goodness for the war in Iraq.”

Well who ever called this article’s author a extremity of relief of digested food stuff just showed how ignorant he/she is. To these folks i would like to offer the opportunity to go to the nearest Reciting station and sign up.. I am a disabled retired vet. I have been to war the folks who post comments like tis should go there also.
Now the person is who wrote this is extremely correct in what he/she is saying. Again i (spent some of my carrier instructing at he naval war college) bush has so weekend right now we couldn’t respond to a cat fight on the corner of any town.
Having said this i agree with the Retired NATO commander this is a problem with the EU an not for the USA to iron out at this moment.
My argument s why not let those 2 providences go back to Russia if it was the choice of there people..
What people need to understand is that Georgia Needs to get it self settled in and clean up any messes before entering NATO In other words it needed to settle or stabilize the providences prior to applying for admission to NATO..
THO I DO NOT AGREE with what is going on in Georgia I can understand why Russia would concerned over the USA placing Missile bases on its borders We would be the first to scream if Russia place missiles at our doorstep..ergo: Pres.Kennedy& Cuba
We need to look at the situation as a whole Not just the parts the bit n pieces the neo cons feed the country.
We as a nation need to wake up and understand the oil wars have started.. We can get out of the mess by becoming energy independent.. This should be our top priority not making war …Some morning thoughts BILL

Georgia attack Russia and then Russia struck back. Georgia was the original instigator. Learn your facts before being an ass.

That article is propaganda. Pure garbage.

“Russia was right to go to war”? It was understandable, *maybe*. This story is nonsense.

I am a Disabled, Marine Corps, Iraq War Veteran. And I cannot stand that you have gotten on this post and written the CRAP you wrote. The first thing is that for the most part you tried to sound intelligent but it seems that you half read a newspaper article then through your obvious struggles with literacy attempted to regurgitate. You make people like me look bad. Get an education and learn how to write before you make something public!

“Russia was right to go to war”
wow. the media seems to have bleached our collective memories. Russia’s backing of the South Ossetians is a response to the claims of independence made by Kosovo in February, which was backed by the West. Russia sees support for Kosovo as belittling its Serbian ally (and thus damaging the Russian sphere of influence) and implicitly encouraging Tajika and Chechnyan separatists within Russia.
By attacking a country armed by the United States (yes, much of Georgia’s gear is American-made), Russia sends out a message not only to the West but to other separatists. The Georgian “provocation” was just the outlet needed to execute Putin’s foreign policy. Unfortunately, other countries dealing with separatists seem to agree with Russia; India and China also opposed Kosovar independence. Now that Russia has set such a precedent, expect India to crack down on the Assamese and China to further restrict the rights of Uighurs.

Look at all the Americans talking about evil Russia “invading” Georgia.
Have you forgotten that America violated international law and invaded Iraq?
AMERICA set the standard for invasion, AMERICA trained Georgian troops and AMERICA is threatening Iran and Russia by putting first strike missiles in Europe.
See the problem here? America.

I read the title of this article and thought what was this nonsense, then I read your points and I thought, OMG, he’s right. I’ve read that the USA has a small air base in Georgia, for overflights into Afghanistan. You never hear about this in our press.
If we weren’t’ bogged down in Iraq, we probably would be fighting Russian troops now in Georgia, well on our way to WW3.
However, I don’t think it’s fair to say Russia was OK to attack Georgia as much as they have. Yes, Georgia (a mostly Muslim country) started this by attacking Ossetia (a mostly Christian country). And at the time, Russia had peacekeepers in Ossetia protecting the people from prior Georgian attacks.
On the other hand, Russia probably had way more justification for invading Georgia than the US ever had to invade Iraq. (Not only did Iraq not have WMD, we now know that even though most world leaders and most Americans really thought they did, OUR leaders knew they didn’t.)

you should really get your facts together unles you’re an 8-year old kid with a blog and no mind at all
soviet union constitution predicted south ossetia’s independence on the exact day Soviet Union falls apart and they used that right but they wasn’t recognized by the world (US and EU), they were independent all along, they just use Georgia’s passports
bla bla bla…long story short
you may have the most stupid president ever but he’s not the one running your country, it’s always been
1.) banking cartel
2.) oil cartel
3.) military cartel
nonetheless, USA would never dare to attack Russia, you crazy morons, where the hell do you live? on mars? if they would, they would do that long time ago
russia is keeping low profile but when you piss them off, they’ll fuck you little bushmans back to stone age, no missile shield will help you and not to mention your dumbass crybaby soldiers
I’ve seen them in Iraq, first they were all like “yeah, let’s fuck ‘em up” and “nobody can beat us” but when they started to suck iraqi dicks all you could see on TV was crying soldiers “I wanna go home” and dumbass parents camping outside the White House with signs “bring my son home”
YOU STUPID FUCKS! nobody in this goddamn world likes you, take a walk in Europe, Asia and Middle-East, take a walk anywhere, nobody fucking likes you and we all pray to god everyday for a world war 3 because you never fought on your own ground, you always went somewhere else so you don’t know how it’s like to have war in your country but 90% of the world does that’s why nothing can surprise us and once bombs start falling on US ground, you’ll be running around screaming like little bitches protesting against war
i really pitty your mindless brains, worms without a though of its own, you don’t need us to destroy you my friend, you don’t need koreans, al kaida or whatever, take a look at your own country
illegal immigrants, minority becoming majority til 2042, you have teachers carrying guns in schools, you have metal detectors everywhere, you can’t move without being IDed, you can’t shit in your own backyard with “patriotic act”, you have the worst educational and medical system, inflation getting worse every day, dollar value is dropping, oil prices are increasing, you performed a GENOCIDE on native americans, you used black people as SLAVES…
just look at your own country
YOU will destroy yourselves, you won’t need anybody else to do it, you’ve been sticking your nose in other people’s problems since WW2 but nothing lasts forever, even Hitler knew that so enjoy your little pathetic lives until you can

Fact the first: In a referendum very recently the population of S. Ossetia voted 90+ percent to secede from Georgia.
Fact the second: Nearly that same amount are ethnically Russian and a majority have some sort of dual citizenship or a visa.
Fact the third: Georgia invaded S. Ossetia and killed 1,300 – 2,000 civilians; signs of genocide were reported from some Human Rights organizations.
The Georgians, emboldened by heavy US support (Second largest receiver of aid to Israel) and with their government fighting tooth and nail to get into NATO, used the traditional Olympic truce as cover to attack people inside their own countries. Our media – ever so entwined with the government and particularly this administration – have been feeding us half truths in the name, I’m sure, of “American Foreign Interests”. But the Russians are much too straightforward to care about the Olympic truce enough to let ethnic Russians – with families just across the boarder in their country – and put their foot down. They told Georgia: “America cannot cover up your atrocities and twist our words to start a war this time. You’ve made a foolish move.”
As for Poland – all you have to do is look at our Cuban precedent. We made it clear how missiles at one’s borders should be handled.
This “european guy” is scarily right, despite his hateful tone. We must start looking harder at the minor deceptions we’re given here in our country; land of the free will not be a very proper nomenclature for America if we continue down our current path. The world can see it — when will we?
But I cannot say don’t hold out some kind of hope that we can regain control of this monster we created with our single voices, with the democratic wind strong behind our backs. We must rediscover our voices and never be quiet.
I’ll be razzed for the mere mention, but:

I stumbled upon this by accident. I live in Sweden, but I spent many years in the US. In this country, media is still fairly but not absolutely free, with a left-hand bias that goes much further away than anything considered “left” in the US. Think Socialism. But the media bias this time is clearly in favor of Georgia – which is rightly telling me that something is very wrong and fishy even here (with the media). Studies of the facts as we know them clearly indicates that Russia is not the aggressor here. Countless witnesses have expressed that Russia was actually protecting them, although I have to be honest and quickly add that I don’t believe this to be true, either.
It’s clearly a game of high-stakes politics, only what are the stakes?

There are a few mistakes here both from the writer and the people making comments. First of all South Ossetia had just as many Georgian’s living in it as it did Ossetians. Abkhazia had more Georgians living in it originally then Abkhazians until they were forced from their homes with the help of Chechnyan rebels. 100,000 Georgians were forced from their homes by 40,000 Abkhazians. If you look at the news now Russia is even claiming that there are about 130 deaths in S Ossetia, oops, good timing for a mis-calculation. S Ossetia is currently governed by a former KGB General, obviously right below an Ossetian figure head. I am from this area, I am RUSSIAN, I was born in Georgia. And while I dont blame any of you for being mistaken, it would be better if you would educate yourself on what is actually going on over there then reading what’s in the news. Please feel free to go to NEWS.RU and translate it, and you will see what the Russians really are.
