Republicans suddenly against interventionism

December 4, 2009 – 12:01 pm

According to polling data released today by the Pew Research Center, for the first time in 40 years, republicans turned sharply against global interventionism; and all it took was a democrat president pledging more troops to Afghanistan. Echoing Bush’s surge in Iraq, Obama has focused America’s attention on Afghanistan, where the unhindered Taliban has been improving it’s asymmetrical warfare tactics during the past 7 years of Bush neglect. But now that Obama—the frequent target of undermine-at-all-costs politics—has acted to squelch terrorism, Republicans struggling to find flaws suddenly (and strongly) support isolationism. For 40 years, the hallmark of republican foreign policy was acting as global police; this sentiment dissolved overnight.
