Perform Hands-Only CPR until medics arive

You can skip the mouth-to-mouth breathing and just press on the chest to save a life. In a major change, the American Heart Association said in March 2008 that hands-only CPR — rapid, deep presses on the victim's chest until help arrives — works just as well as standard CPR for sudden cardiac arrest in adults.

The American Heart Association hope bystanders will now be more willing to jump in and help if they see someone suddenly collapse. Hands-only CPR is simpler and easier to remember and removes a big barrier for people skittish about the mouth-to-mouth breathing.

Being skittish about the "old" method of CPR is extremely common. This is due to social ideas of cleanliness, high awareness of sickness propagation, and culutral and social fears. The A.H.A. performed a study and feels this method may save many more lives.

Two steps:

1) Call 911
2) Push hard and fast in the center of the chest.
(100 times a minute)

Last year, I was going to eat with a friend of mine, when we saw someone collapse. There were dozens of people around, but nobody -- including myself -- acted. It was not because people didn't know CPR. I knew CPR and my friend did as well; the big problem was the confidence to act, fears of doing something wrong, questioning if we should do something, and of course, whether we should get that up-close and personal with someone we didn't know. After reading about hands-only CPR in the news this morning, I felt that if I knew this, I would have acted and maybe saved a life. Now I feel it necessary to propagate this information in hopes that someone will be able to save a life with this information.
